Hope you are all enjoying the summer weather! It's been hot here, but we've been starting our work early in the morning to beat the heat. It's so lovely waking up to the sunrise, and watching the last mists leave the valley.
There are lots of unexpectedly magical moments here at the farm: just the other day, I set off mid-afternoon to mow the high grass in a part of the field that we want to plant this year. Mowing on our 85hp tractor is a loud, hot job, and not one I'd normally expect to be particularly “magical.” But when I looked up from the tractor a couple of passes in, there were dozens (if not hundreds!) of swallows, swooping all around me over the fresh cut field.
I assume that they were looking for bugs and other tasty critters that I may have disturbed, but being in the middle of their grace and exuberance made an ordinary experience into something extraordinary.
