The Maitri Farm CSA is about to begin!
It's been a whirlwind spring, and lots of hot weather has meant that everything has been growing fast and furious. If you've been on the fence about signing up for this year, now is the time! June 2ndis our first Tuesday distribution day, and that's less than two weeks away. Visit maitrifarmny.com/csa to sign up today.
The Maitri Farm team has been growing too. Billy and Rose have been joined by the lovely Molly, a Connecticut native who came to us from a dairy farm in Maine, and has been a great addition to the farm. Molly's many talents include taking beautiful Instagram pictures, and keeping everything in our greenhouse happy and well-watered, even on those crazy 80 degree May afternoons. We're so excited to have her with us this season!
We're also still looking for volunteers who'd like to help us with our distributions in exchange for a free share. We need someone to help make sure the pickup runs smoothly and to clean up afterwards, either at the Tuesday distribution in Westport (volunteer hours 5:00-7:30 pm, June 2-October 27th), or our Saturday distribution in Greenwich from August onward (8:45-11:15am). If you or someone you know may be interested, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our fields are filling up with delicious veggies, most of them tucked safely away under row covers that help us keep them safe from bugs without pesticides. Farming without synthetic chemical shortcuts can take some extra legwork: wrestling with row cover in high winds, endlessly pulling grass that wants to resprout in our newly-opened fields...but there are so many benefits. Perhaps our favorite perk of natural farming? Sampling produce fresh out of the fields as we work! (Favorites so far have been our crisp, ruby-red radishes, and some incredibly flavorful arugula.)
Our pigs and hens are all doing well and enjoying being out on pasture in the wonderful weather. Maitri Farm eggs are now being sold at the McEnroe Organic Market here in Amenia, and we can't wait to start bringing them to our CSA members, too.
Thank you so much to all of you who have joined and who have helped us spread the word about our CSA this year; we really appreciate your support. The beginning of the season is just around the corner – see you in June!
